Winchester Country Club
Played On 09/14/2024Not sure what Robert Trent Jones was thinking
The course was in bad shape. The starter warned us the Summer had beaten it up badly. Bad conditions are one thing, but the layout and massive over-contouring of the greens were brutal. It could have been so much better as a foothills course. Too many pinch points, over bunkering and wildly sloped greens seemed unnecessary. The par 3's were possibly the highlight, which is sad. You couldn't pay me to play this track again
The Golf Club at Copper Valley
Played On 09/30/2022Fun layout - rough around the edges
It's probably been 8 years since I've played here and it's not in as good of shape as prior. It's a fun layout and one of the best in the gold country foothills. There were 2 main problems: The bunker liners were exposed all over the place .. they need sand! and kikuyu grass has invaded lots of areas just off the fairways and it is about 4" deep so it was tough getting out of it. There are many areas in the fairways with no grass but they are working on it. Weekday rates are great .. Fri-Sun not so much.
Callippe Preserve Golf Course
Played On 10/19/2021Fun layout. Punched greens were SLOW (Oct 19)
Layout is fun, interesting and diverse. The greens were punched recently so they were really slow, but that comes with the maintenance! The pace was below average vs other times I've played there, but I never have a bad time here .. the value is very good.
Nakoma Golf Resort - Dragon Course
Played On 07/27/2020Precision Mandatory with questionable greens
If you can hit precise and long shots like a single digit h-cap and also fade the ball off the tee you can score. If not, it will be a long day. Approx 12 tee shots need very straight or fade shot. Lots of side hill lies and big elevation changes. Many greens had patches of dirt that would hijack your ball’s direction drastically. Many greens need to be completely redesigned/rebuilt to be playable.BTW, if someone is looking for a good salesperson at their company, check out the lady in the dragon pro shop. She was hard selling the course like it was Old Greenwood or other top course and was passionate about it!
The Bridges Golf Club
Played On 10/22/2019Greens pretty bad 3 weeks after punching
I've played the course before, but it appeared in worse shape than prior years. The greens were REALLY slow after being punched a few weeks prior, and I think in general some of the greens and many of the paths etc. have settled (not in a good way) in the past few years.
It will take some doing to get me back here unless I hear it has significantly improved.
Deer Ridge Golf Club
Played On 12/30/20136+ hr round .. No problem, come on in, we'll take your money
This was my 5th time playing Deer Ridge as I like the layout. Four of the five rounds have been very slow pace of play. This last round was glacial and I won't be back. Four groups on the second and third tee made our decision to leave easy .. But even through they had no carts available (rack em, stack em and pack em out on the course) they were still taking money and talking just slight delays to the unsuspecting guests as we were leaving .. The greed and reputation of slow play will bite them in the long run.
Yocha Dehe Golf Club at Cache Creek Casino Resort
Played On 12/16/2013Great Winter course .. Most annoying GPS carts ever
2nd time playing the course. With no wind and a bit of course knowledge, it played much easier than 1st go around. Sand was perfect. Lengthy par 3's are testers. Wasn't sure how 234 yd par 3 was 10th handicap hole. The layout and facilities are top notch and worth the road trip. The carts have wayyy too much technology. If you have to touch the GPS screen over a dozen times it borders on ridiculous. The engine is governed by the GPS, so at times on the edge of the fairways, the cart thought it was in the rough and slowed way down .. stupid.
The Ridge Golf Course & Events Center
Played On 07/24/2013Need precision to master this course
You need precision and a little bit of shot shaping off the tee to score well here. Oak trees and bunkers pinched in on some of the landing areas so it visually appears tight on many holes.
The greens were slower than expected, and with the heat, some spots were too soaked with water to dig in a wedge. It was a very good test. I was surprised the par 3's were all roughly the same length. This was my first time out there .. you need a few times out to master it I think. As mentioned, there is water and rocky scrub (rattlesnake heaven) on numerous holes
that can cause fits if you are having a less-than-accurate day with your shots. Lots of variety in hole shapes and elevations.
Tilden Park Golf Course
Played On 7/10/2013Fast play ... slow greens
We played early on a foggy morning and the greens were painfully slow, however the good pace of play by all the locals made the
round fly by. The amount of play the course gets is evident in certain spots, and overall the maintenance of the course was so so. It was fun to play a tight course with some smaller greens.
Eagle Vines Golf Club
Played On 6/14/2013Great Layout, great shape, get rid of geese
Loved the layout .. lots of diversity, longer holes and picturesque
views. Three holes had goose droppings all over them, including covering one of the greens .. it was pretty gross.
Get a dog or a short wire perimeter to the lakes to eliminate the geese and this becomes a 5 star course.
Roddy Ranch Golf Club
Played On 03/25/2013A bit ragged for Spring conditions
This course is a good test. It has a variety of holes and elevations,
and plays tough in the windy conditions.
I was surprised with the ragged conditions surrounding the bunkers and in areas near the greens. It appears to be getting
LOTS of play. Pace was slow at 4:50.
I hope they are planning for a new fleet of carts ... our gas cart felt like it was 10 years old. For $25 special (greens sanded) it was still a good value.
The Bridges Golf Club
Played On 3/17/2013Proactive changes happening to an already good course
Bridges is in the middle of a massive bunkering and grounds
improvement program. It didn't get in the way, but you can see it will make an already challenging course even better.
They have an excellent range (mats) with plenty of targets.
The proshop and restaurant and general grounds maintenance are all country club level. There is potential danger on most holes, but if you can keep it in play, you'll have a great experience.
Diablo Creek Golf Course
Played On 03/16/2013Flat Fun
Though it is flat is a pancake, this course has some of the longer holes you'll see in the area, (230yd par 3 - 632 par 5 - 454yd par 4) so playing from blue tees makes it challenging. The back nine has some tighter holes, but the back and forth layout doesn't seem claustrophobic. The course is always in pretty good shape and they typically don't let the pace lag too badly. Good range, putting practice area and sports bar.
Hiddenbrooke Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2013Good layout is a bit worn around the edges
This is/was a great layout, but it is not in the good shape it was
from years past. The cart paths, some greens and fairways have settled down the hill, causing unfair conditions on some holes.
The greens on #11 and #14 and fairway on #15 just need a clown's mouth to finish the ridiculous nature of difficulty. The
general groundskeeping is not as manicured as in the past.
The condition of the greens were good, and the lower greens fees
keep it a decent value if you can forgive some of the downside.
Paradise Valley Golf Course
Played On 11/24/2012Very good condition, fun layout
Paradise is a great layout with lots of diverse holes and a mix of
challenging water holes. The course was in great shape.
