Heather Course at Boyne Highlands - 18
The 18th hole on the Heather Course at Boyne Highlands is one of the toughest finishing holes you'll ever play.

Michigan has a right to claim itself as "America's Summer Golf Capital". Michigan's mitten is home to roughly 800 public courses, the most in the country. While there is really good golf, both public and private, around Detroit and Grand Rapids, it is northern Michigan that is the best place to stay and play for a wonderful vacation among the hardwoods and rolling hills.

What started out as a ski destination has blossomed into a region teeming with golf resorts. In fact, Michigan is home to six of the largest golf resorts in the country - the 108-hole Gull Lake View Resort in the appropriately named Augusta near Kalamazoo, the 81-hole Treetops Resort in Gaylord and 72-hole meccas "up north" at Boyne Highlands Resort, A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, Shanty Creek Resorts and Garland Resort.

While Boyne Resort's three properties - the Highlands, Boyne Mountain and the Inn at Bay Harbor - have a long tradition of excellent golf, the new kids on the block, Forest Dunes and Arcadia Bluffs, have been expanding to make their presence felt.
