Texas Golf Resorts
Texas is a legendary golf state thanks to such icons in the game as Harvey Penick, Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Babe Didrikson Zaharias and Kathy Whitworth. The Lone Star State is also full of golf getaways from San Antonio and Austin to the Texas Hill Country and beyond.
San Antonio is the oldest city in Texas and remains a popular tourist destination for theme parks, The Alamo and plenty of golf resorts. As the home of the Texas Open, such resort properties as La Cantera and the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort have held the world's best golfers. The state capital of Austin is just up the road, where Omni Barton Creek features 72 holes of golf just minutes west of downtown. To the west, Horseshoe Bay Resort features 54 holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. along the shores of Lake LBJ.
Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, as major economic centers, don't have the wealth of golf resorts of Austin and San Antonio but there are options, especially near area lakes. No mention of Texas golf getaways is complete without Lajitas Golf Resort near Big Bend National Park and bordering the Rio Grande, a tremendous, old-western getaway with spectacular scenery.
