My son at the 18th hole! Photo submitted by Hassellcari on 08/24/2013
Good Layout and Fun Round with Room for Improvement
I played a Sunday round at Lake Spivey Golf Course, and overall, it was an enjoyable experience.
One of the highlights of my visit was the fun factor of the course layout. With some challenging holes that require course management shot-making and well-placed hazards, Driver is not always needed, I only hit it three times the whole round from the blues. Which depending on your view of courses like this you may not like. I enjoy the thought process of strategy. Because of this aspect, Lake Spivey kept me engaged throughout the round.
However, while the course was enjoyable to play, I couldn't help but notice that the pace of play was slower than desired. Delays between holes were somewhat frequent, which impacted the flow of the game and resulted in longer rounds.
In terms of course conditions, Lake Spivey was in fair shape. The fairways were growing in, providing inconsistent lies for approach shots. Which was fun in some cases...lol...The greens, while mostly smooth, could benefit from some additional care to improve their speed and consistency. Still some bare spots and weeds. It seem they are working on this. As evidence by pin placements this day. So be close to the hole...lol..
Overall, Lake Spivey Golf Course offered me a fun experience, albeit with room for improvement in terms of pace of play and course maintenance. Despite these minor drawbacks, I would still recommend the course to fellow golfers looking for an relatively affordable and enjoyable round.
Good Budget Friendly Course
I’ve been playing Lake Spivey for years! Always played it growing up with my dad and uncle. I still come back to play it with hometown friends even though I left the McDonough/Stockbridge area a few years ago. I’m writing this review because a staff member mentioned to me that they hired a new maintenance crew in hopes of improving their ratings on this app! Well I want to let everyone know that the course has been looking much better lately compared to some previous rounds I’ve had here in the last couple of years! Tee boxes need the most work in my opinion, but it’s clear that they’ve put work into repairing the greens and all of the bunkers looked great today. I love this place and I’ll always come back to it. Great staff, good snack/beer prices, and overall a pretty fun course! I’ve never had a bad time there and today was no different! For the price point I don’t think it can be beat!
Just pay 20 more dollars and enjoy yourself
Only one good green , pace is terrible and when you’re on your last approach shot they might tell you to pick up your ball because they’re shooting a movie on the deck behind home 18
Not bad at all
This was the first time playing this course and it was t too bad considering it’s been pretty cold and rainy lately. I’m looking forward to playing here again when the winter officially ends and the course has a chance to grow in and turn green!
FUN Course
The course was in good shape considering all of the rain we have had. The staff was very friendly and helpful. That was our first time playing here and we will be back.
Loved it!
Everyone there was very friendly and the course was in great shape! Will play again!
Club 'Pro" completely unprofessional
I played with a group of 6 guys. Myself +5. we wished to go out in a 3v3 fashion in two groups. We would need 4 carts but the staff refused to give us an extra cart even though there were 15 available other carts and we were the only ones on the course that day. We asked for an extra cart and explained our situation but were met with a no due to their "policy". We reluctantly accepted this policy and moments later were met by the club "pro" who tracked us down on the range and got right into our face with an attitude and demeanor identical to a bar fight. He verbally abused us and threatened to throw us out and give us no refund. He was seemingly ready to fight us right there on his own range. In short... he made us ride 3 people in one cart which was not practical or safe at all. It was a total pain. His attitude was unbelievably unprofessional and ridiculously aggressive. Truth be told he needs to be fired for the way he acted. I hav never seen someone behave this way on a course let alone the driving range and especially by the CLUB PRO HIMSELF. We spent almost 250 dollars there after buying balls and snacks and range balls and that is how we were treated. We will now never play their again even though the pricing is great and Course is in good condition solely because of this redneck they call a club pro. I really can't stress enough how unbelievable and rude and aggressive as well as unprofessional this Club Pro was. He needs anger management training and to be reprimanded or fired.
They gave my tee time away.
I booked a remaining single spot for a foursome at 11:40 am. I showed up and paid. I went to the first tee and waited for the people with whom I had been paired. Then a foursome showed up. The starter was nice and tried to find a spot for me. After waiting for several groups, it became apparent that it was not going to work. I went back to the clubhouse and waited another 20 minutes and then asked for a refund. No one could explain why the clubhouse gave my spot to someone else.
Nice layout, poor condition
Lake Spivey has a great layout and the staff are very friendly. However the condition of the course really let it down and the greens were the worst I’ve played around the Atlanta area in the last 6 months. The cart tack is also in poor condition. I would come back but not worth paying more than $30 until the condition improves
